King Charles invites Trump for unprecedented second UK state visit
WASHINGTON – Donald Trump accepted an invitation from King Charles on Thursday to visit Britain, making him the first elected political leader in modern history to receive two state visits from a British monarch.
During a White House press conference, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer presented Trump with a letter from King Charles. Upon receiving the invitation, Trump accepted without hesitation.
"This is truly special. It's unprecedented—nothing like this has ever happened before," Starmer told Trump as he handed him the letter.
"The answer is yes," Trump said, confirming to Starmer that he would attend alongside First Lady Melania Trump. "We look forward to being there, honoring the King, and honoring the country."
No date for the visit has been announced.
During his first term, Trump was welcomed by the late Queen Elizabeth for a three-day state visit in June 2019. The trip included an opulent state banquet, a private lunch with the Queen, and tea with Charles, who was then the heir to the throne.
